Everyone who took a little time to prepare for such holidays, probably already know what to see in Alanya. Those for whom Alanya was more of a random choice probably will not have this kind of information. And they will be stuck with their travel agency hotel representative who will encourage them to buy trips from him. It’s better choice however to buy them yourself at your local travel agency. What is also worth considering is exploring the city on your own, especially that many attractions in Alanya can be reached very easily.
Sightseeing walk around Alanya.
When sunbathing tired us a bit, it’s the best time to visit the city. On this matter you should trust those who have already spent their holidays in Alanya more than once. Those who will tell you what you need to see in Alanya right away. They know all main attractions perfectly.
While exploring Alanya, be sure to visit the fortress located on the top of a 250 meter hill. It can be seen from almost anywhere in Alanya. The hill can be reached on foot, by bus or by cable car. It is best to go up the Kale hill by cable car and come back by walk. The way back should not take more than 1,5 hours. It’s of course from the top if the hill to the city center. It is best to go down in the afternoon because then the hill “shields” us from the sun.
Another place that you must see during your holidays in Alanya is the harbor. It is located by the sea and is an integral part of all coastal facilities. While visiting the port we can also visit the Red Tower, shipyards, docks and the lighthouse. The lighthouse is located at the entrance to the port, at the cape. The lighthouse is worth visiting twice – once in a day time and once in the evening or at night. This guarantees unforgettable views.
There are various dance clubs and bars around the harbor. Great place for all who like having fun with loud and trendy music. Everyone who wants a quieter entertainment should go to one of many cosy pubs where with good food and drinks you can soak up the atmosphere of the city.
On the other side of the hill, near the cable car to the hill departure station, you can visit the Damlataş Cave known as the Dripping Stone Cave. The cave has a specific microclimate. It maintains a constant temperature of 23 degrees throughout the year as well as very high humidity. It was discovered by accident in 1948 and is still a popular tourist attraction. Near the cave you will find a small archaeological museum of the city of Alanya. It’s definitely worth visiting. Some exhibits are very interesting.
Being in Turkey, it’s impossible not to notice the ubiquitous mosques. Alanya is no exception and you can see a lot of them in the city. The most famous and impressive mosque is the City Mosque (Merkez Camii). It is located practically in the city center and the easiest way to find it is by walking to the port since it is located on the street that leads directly to the port. When entering the mosque we take off our shoes and try to cover the whole body. Visit in the mosque is free of charge.
We need to mention also about other attractions that are also worth seeing in Alanya like Cleopatra’s Beach or the city park. These are not strictly sightseeing places, but for sure worth visiting. The beaches in Alanya are free so you can use an occasion for sunbathing on Cleopatra’s Beach.
Now it is perfectly clear that while our holiday in Alanya we will not be bored. One stay can be not enough to see all places that are necessary to visit. And Turkey is definitely more than Alanya itself. It is worth coming and proving it to yourself.
